Patrick "Jazzkat" Nicolls
Born in Bushwick N.Y.
Patrick Nicolls from New York to Tokyo is considered a true ambassador of the jazz world with over 35 years of playing under his belt. Music was filled in the Nicolls household and I learned at a very early age music would not only be a passion but a craft I would embrace . Singing at the age of five I was earning my keep singing to Rose the old itlainan lady down the stoop from me would get me a quarter for " That's Amore " so at times when I brought home a little bit more of the coldcuts for lunch I never told anyone where I got that quarter from . Studying piano with Mrs. Beck and my mentor Sy raider I learned how to play "Misty"and "When i fall in love " these tunes would play a pivotal role in my Jazz playing , but jazz wouldn't play such a role just yet.
This was the time of Rock N Roll and Sergio Mendes brazil 66 and I quickly found my niche for playing in rock bands during my school years .Unlike my peers who went on to college ,I chose a life of national touring and the road to be my alma mater. The first of hundreds of credited tracks my first 45 was cut at dogwood studios in Mobile Alalbama .
Over the years my playing has gotten me to the famed Carnegie Hall with my good friend Dennis Winge (The Rummies ) jazz and with the incredible maestroWilliam Masselli(classical ).
Playing other well known venues includes Atlatic City Hotels such as the Borgata , Trumps , and in Las vegas I have become a regular at the Bellagio , MGM Grand , Stardust and other famed Hotels .
In trying to stay in the graces of the true jazz pioneers I have played with guitar master Lou Masana ( Sinatra Nelson Riddle reprise) Bill Jacobs Master vibes ( Naji) and I study with the legendary Pete Chiveley ( West Side Story Stan Kenton )and very close and personal friend Kenny Reese ( Tito Puente's Timable man )
I'm the first to say i was influenced by such bass greats as Ray Brown , Charles Mingus and the new kats Christian McBride and Peter Washington as i still comb the nightlife I did get a chance to play a blues with Miles Davis at the Possible 20's.
